Introduction

The Active Lives Children and Young People Survey was conducted by Ipsos on behalf of Sport England, who commissioned the survey to inform both their own strategy and the strategies of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

The published data which this note accompanies are presented for academic year 2017-18 (Year 1 – baseline), academic year 2022-23 (Year 6 – previous year), academic year 2023-24 (Year 7).

This document provides details about academic year 2023-24 (Year 7) of the survey, with differences from academic year 2017-18 (Year 1) and academic year 2022-23 (Year 6) pointed out.

For trends tables all survey years are shown. For a small number of tables the baseline is academic year 2019-20 (Year 3) or academic year 2020-21 (Year 4) if the relevant question was first introduced that year.
