Place partnerships

In order to focus our investment and resources on the communities that need it most, we’re significantly increasing the number of places across England that we partner with.

We know that where a person lives and the environment around them has a huge impact on how likely they are to be physically active, and that too often people in low-income communities don’t have access to the same opportunities or facilities as wealthier areas.

Through our Place Partnership programme, we're unashamedly targeting our resources and efforts on communities that need the greatest levels of support and experience the greatest levels of inequality.

Place-based working takes a ground-up approach, putting communities at the heart of everything.

We collaborate with the people and partners who live and work locally, building a picture of the system from their perspective, reflecting a community's unique needs and circumstances.

We bring together local leaders, policy and decision-makers and organisations to understand the barriers and issues people face to getting active, therefore co-creating local solutions.

When stakeholders across all parts of the system come together in this way, the conditions and ways of working become embedded, long-lasting and the transformational change we're looking for within communities happens.

Together, we're breaking down the barriers and addressing the inequalities that are preventing the least active members of a community from joining in.

By listening and collaborating, harnessing the enthusiasm and expertise at the heart of each community, we're building more equal, vibrant and active places across England.
