Weights have again been calculated for teachers in academic year 2024-25. Prior to academic year 2022-23 (Year 6), there were no weights for teachers and any teacher analysis was carried out unweighted.
Following the introduction of teacher tables in academic year 2021-22, the weighting of teacher data was considered. The data for previous academic years has been weighted retrospectively so that where teacher results are presented in the current report, the figures are weighted for all years presented.
Only participating teachers from sampled schools (maximum one per school) have been allocated a weight. The weighting has been done against the issued sample of eligible schools at the time of sampling for the relevant year of the survey.
The weights were generated using rim weighting separately for state primary and state secondary schools to school-level population counts for:
- urban / rural,
- free school meals (FSM): an indicator of whether 20% or more pupils in the school are eligible for FSMs or not. This is the same measure as for pupil weighting,
- region.
Because there was an insufficient number of teachers participating from independent schools, it was not possible to use calibration weighting for that group. Instead, a constant adjustment weight was produced so that independent schools were in their correct proportion with the state schools.
