Swim Dem Crew win big at BEDSA awards

Swim Dem Crew was among the big winners on a star-studded night at the annual British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards

8th February 2016

Swim Dem Crew

The London-based project scooped the prestigious Community Sports Project of the Year Award at a ceremony attended and supported by sports stars from across the country.

An initiative that places equal importance on the communal experience as much as the act of swimming itself, Swim Dem Crew has been recognised for its huge success in getting more people within BME communities to take to the water.

Arun Kang, Chief Executive Officer of Sporting Equals who founded the awards said: “Swim Dem Crew has had phenomenal success in championing swimming as not only a fantastic way to get exercise but also a crucial life skill for those who were either too scared to try swimming or who had simply never been given the opportunity before.

“Swim Dem Crew is a truly deserving winner of the Sport England Community Sports Project Award”.

Swim Dem Crew’s triumph follows on from its recent national coverage in an Android UK advert.

The self-proclaimed “bold” and “awe-inspiring” project shared the stage with fellow winners Jessica Ennis-Hill and Frank Bruno as recipients of one of 10 awards on the night.
